I did a majority of the concept art for Cell Squad. We kept it simple and less detailed as we didn’t want to have extreme loading times when playing the games. Many characters didn’t make it to the final game such as Smelly Belly the E. coli and Bob, his mutant neighbour. Some of the preliminary background imagery were done by my partner, Lucas.
The characters evolved throughout the duration of the project. This is so that they could work with their environments.
Most important to us was that their colours matched their real world counterparts. Bacteria appear pink or purple under a microscope so we used that as a general rule.
